When my daughter left her son with me and suddenly disappeared without a trace, I had no idea that three weeks later I would receive a phone call that would literally break my heart into pieces.
She asked me to take care of her son for two weeks because she had to leave urgently for a business trip. Everything happened in a hurry, but I agreed without hesitation — I was happy to spend more time with my grandson. She handed me the child, carrying a huge bag with his things, then almost ran to the airport.
It wasn’t until later, when I looked into the bag, that I felt something was very wrong. Inside were clothes for autumn, winter, and spring, all his toys, and a full set of medications he might need. This wasn’t luggage for a short stay — it looked like she didn’t plan on coming back anytime soon.
I called her again and again, but the phone remained silent. Days went by, then weeks, and I lived in constant fear and uncertainty. Finally, after three weeks, a video call popped up on the screen. My hands were shaking as I pressed “answer”… and then I saw her.
